Manure and other organic materials have been used as fertilizer for thousands of years, back to the days of ancient farmers. These plot farmers would have noticed a significantly higher yield from areas where their animals were leaving behind droppings, and tied that back to the manure becoming an excellent source of nutrition for the plants. This type of recycling not only helps grow more bountiful harvests, but also takes advantage of cleaning up the space by removing manure that could otherwise cause an area to become messy and overly fragrant.
 
Today's farmers have a much better grasp of the use of fertilizers, but many still turn to the traditional methods for fertilizing their crops. Modern fertilizers that include chemicals and other additives may provide a greater boost of nutrients to the soil, but they can also add in some not-so-great components that are not appreciated by the individuals who ultimately purchase what's being grown. The ability to gather, spread and fully utilize manure continues to be an important function for farmers, who often require updates to their machines over time.
