What is a Sprocket?
A Sprocket is a mechanical wheel with teeth on the rim designed to rotate and engage with links of a chain. At PEER Chain & Sprockets we offer a wide variety of chain sprockets used in a wide range of industrial and mechanical applications, ensuring efficient power transfer and reliable performance. They are essential for synchronizing movements, converting motion, and facilitating the smooth operation of machinery. Chain sprockets offer superior efficiency, minimal slippage, and long-lasting durability, even under high-stress conditions or heavy loads. This sprocket resource guide will ensure you confidently choose the chain sprockets that meet your specific operational requirements.

Specialty Sprockets
Peer Chain & Sprockets has an array of specialty sprockets. Specialty sprockets refers to sprockets with unique elements through the bore. Some of these elements include:
- Bronze Bushings
Bronze bushings are inserts that go inside the bore of the sprocket and allow the sprocket to rotate with much less friction. These are common components on idler sprockets and can come in a wide variety of types and sizes
- Quick Disconnect Bushings (QD)
Quick Disconnect Bushings (QD) are bushings that go inside the bore of the sprocket, what is nice about these is the outside diameter will remain constant while the hole through the center can be customized. This allows for sprockets to be easily interchangeable onto different shaft sizes without having to purchase entirely new sprockets. More information on these types of sprockets can be found here: Quick Disconnect Bushings

- Split Taper Bushings
Split taper bushings are mechanical fasteners that secure sprockets onto shafts. These are removeable and can be great solutions if you need flexibility with your sprockets.
- Idler Element Sprockets (bearings)
Idler sprockets use a bearing-supported design to help chain run smoothly in applications where the sprocket isn't mounted like a conventional drive sprocket. If you are in need of a sprocket with a bearing insid
e then look no further, we offer dozens of sprockets with idler elements that will ensure your machine runs smoothly and effectively as possible. More information on these types of sprockets can be found here: Idler Element Sprockets

Replacing/Maintenance
When Should You Replace a Sprocket?
Chain and sprocket wear go hand in hand. Installing a new chain on badly worn sprockets can accelerate wear
on the new chain, so inspect both components when replacement time comes around. Look for worn or damaged teeth, rough tooth surfaces
or changes in the tooth profile.
